Dr. Erin M. Stone
Dr. Erin Stone is happy to be caring for women in the Charlotte community, a city she has called home for most of her life. "I was born in Charlotte and my parents are still here," Dr. Stone shared. "I graduated from Providence Day School, and left the state for college at the University of Virginia. I jumped at the chance to come back to the Carolinas when I got accepted at The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University."
Dr. Stone's desire to become a physician started long before her formal medical education. "My dad is a retired general surgeon here in Charlotte," she said. "I would go round with him as a little girl. Even when I was young, I knew I wanted to make a meaningful difference in people's lives."
In college, Dr. Stone worked as an emergency medical technician, or EMT. "I looked forward to going out on calls and being able to help in emergency situations," she recalled. "I also worked as a Peer Health Educator at UVA, where I would educate different groups about safe sex and contraception. This was my first experience in women's health."
During medical school, Dr. Stone had the opportunity to shadow a Charlotte ob/gyn. "That's when I knew I loved the field," she said. "I love every part of women's health. I feel like I can really relate to my patients. I love the mix of office and hospital-based care. And who doesn't love delivering babies?"
Dr. Stone says some of the highlights of her career are providing gynecology services for adolescents and young adults, offering conception counseling, treating fibroids and completing robotic surgeries. "I also love the personal relationships I develop with my patients through their pregnancies, deliveries and postpartum recoveries," she said. "It never gets old to be such an integral part of one of the most important moments of a couple's life: the birth of their child."
Outside of work, Dr. Stone enjoys spending time with her husband, Roger. "We love spending time outside, especially with our dog, Gracie," she shared. "I also like to hike, water ski and go to yoga classes with my mother."
