Dr. Nathan Givens
Medicine is a second career for Dr. Nathan Givens, one that he finds very fulfilling and one that provides what he felt was missing in his first job. "I worked in finance for two years after completing college," Dr. Givens shared. "I enjoyed working directly with clients, but missed working as part of a team. Healthcare allows providers, administrators and patients to work alongside each other for the betterment of everyone."
After attending the Medical College of Virginia and completing a residency at Carolinas Medical Center, Dr. Givens says he is especially thankful to have joined the team at Novant Health Mintview OB/GYN. "We have a great team here," he said. "Everyone is so supportive and works together to help improve women’s healthcare. We are all fortunate to participate in some of the most amazing and challenging moments in women’s lives."
Obstetrics and gynecology is a specialty that allows Dr. Givens to establish lasting relationships with his patients. "My favorite part of being an OB/GYN is getting to know patients, and working with them to help them feel better and meet their health goals throughout their lifetime," he explained. "I love everything from counseling adolescents and young couples about contraception and preventive care, to helping women with issues such as abnormal bleeding and pelvic pain, to working closely with families as they prepare to welcome their new babies."
Dr. Givens is married with three children and a fourth on the way. "We love going for walks, riding bikes and traveling together, especially to the beach and the mountains," he said. "I love coaching my daughter's soccer team, and we also have two dogs who keep us very busy so we're always on the run."
Members of Myers Park United Methodist Church, Dr. Givens and his wife enjoy being involved in that community. "Together, we teach Sunday school to the three-year-olds," he said.
